Energy Star for Existing Homes: The Comprehensive Home Assessment
The Comprehensive Home Assessment is made up of two phases:
The first phase consists of a BPI certified contractor taking inventory and reporting the current conditions of your home. This will include an evaluation of all of the following:
- Health and safety (evaluation of carbon monoxide and moisture levels)
- Inspection of air filtration rates and insulation levels
- Domestic hot water system
- Heating and cooling system efficiencies
- Distribution system (ductwork)
- Evaluation of lighting and major electrical appliances
The second phase consists of one of our BPI certified professionals developing the scope of work for your proposed home improvements to increase your home’s energy efficiency. This phase will also include a cost and energy savings estimate.
The Comprehensive Home Assessment is performed by using the latest technology to check out the scope of your home’s energy performance. Tools include a Carbon Monoxide Analyzer, Blower Door to measure air tightness and identify any spots where their is air leakage in the home, as well as the use of a Duct Blaster to measure the level of current air duct leakage in your home.
