If your insulation is just level with or below your floor joists (i.e., you can easily see your joists), you should add more.”
Keep in mind that even if your joists are not visible and you think you may have enough attic insulation, there could be hidden air leaks that are reducing the insulation’s performance. Too many air leaks can actually render insulation essentially useless.
Other signs that indicate you may need more attic insulation include:
