What is Energy Star?

energy star logo

ENERGY STAR, established in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is a voluntary partnership between the government and more than 9,000 organizations, including 2,500 of the nation’s homebuilders. It is the government backed symbol for energy efficiency.

When you see the blue ENERGY STAR label on a product, you can rest assured that is energy-efficient and can help you save money. The ENERGY STAR label provides the following promise to new homes:

  • Significantly more efficient energy consumption than the standard home
  • Lower utility bills compared to homes with no ENERGY STAR products
  • Reduction in air pollution

About ENERGY STAR

The logo identifies new homes and more than 40 types of products with excellent energy efficiency while offering the features, quality and personal comfort that today’s consumers expect and deserve. ENERGY STAR products include:

  • Building products (insulation, windows, doors, roofing, etc.)
  • Appliances (refrigerators, washers, dehumidifiers, etc.)
  • Heating and cooling equipment (air conditioners, furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, etc.)
  • Office equipment (computers, imaging equipment, etc.)
  • Battery chargers (handheld vacuums, cordless power tools, etc.)
  • Lighting and fans (ceiling fans, light bulbs, etc.)
  • Water heaters (gas, electric, solar and tankless)
  • Pool pumps

Not only can using ENERGY STAR products help you save money every year, but it also means you’re contributing to the health of our environment—and you may even qualify for tax credits.

ENERGY STAR homeowners can significantly reduce their energy costs. Last year alone, Americans using ENERGY STAR saved enough energy to power 20 million homes and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 18 million cars, while saving $9 billion in energy costs.
